MARINA COLLARD

Marina Collard is a painter, choreographer, performer and video artist. Her work captures the fragility and complexity of being human in the face of cultural, social and political worlds.
The paintings and performances are driven by physicality and are deeply influenced by her formative career as a dance artist. Drawing on themes from domestic and the public life, she finds beauty in the mundane, evoking associations to familiar, but imagined situations, places and spaces. This obsessive attention for all that is ordinary is expressed in the democratisation of the elements which compose the works. These elements coexist and collide with varying degrees of comfort and discomfort.
While there is a clear intent and purpose, things are kept open ended, revealing
a resistance to fixity or to rendering a meaning concrete. Collard’s insight into emotional and psychological worlds is presented with warmth and humour.
