Torno Subito (Back Soon) occurs in the bustling activity of the famous fish market in Mogliano, Veneto (on the mainland close to Venice)... but on its day off. The work occupies one of the central stalls of the market on a Sunday when the architecture of the fish market recedes and multiple independent pop-up stalls take up the space instead.

 

So, Torno Subito navigates  the mistimed, negotiating the absence of the fish traders and their ample fish produce. The performer moves between embodying vendor, displaced and invisible, and their equally absent stocks of fish.  

 

The piece touches on questions of labour and the fatigue of work. At times, it inhabits the produce itself, the objectified body of the performer replacing the fish lying on the slab, with humorous, yet political undertones.
